Editor's Note

Hello. October is a month of festivity and on behalf of Colourcoil Industries, the committee would like to wish our Muslim readers, "selamat berpuasa", and

 "Selamat Hari Raya"

For this auspicious occasion, our IT department has come up with a new title block design. Hope our readers like it.

Over the last 2 months, we have received requests from readers to  feature more articles related to metal roofing. Well, this idea was put forward to the committee and after much deliberation, we decided that we will also include  articles related to metal roofing whenever we can.

I would also like to thank our readers for their kind comments and  if you have an idea as to how we can improve our e-newsletter, we want to hear from you.

For those who will be driving long distances to visit family, friends and relatives, please drive responsibly and safely.

Thank you.

Did you know.........?
Recently in the United States, there has been a recall of toys made in China. The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued warnings on toys containing excessive levels of lead, violating a federal lead paint ban.

Colourcoil Industries is proud to announce that all pre-painted steel products manufactured by our company (i.e. colour coated steel for downstream manufacturing of products such as metal roofing) are completely free from the poison lead. Only lead-free pigments are used in our paint formulation. If you feel strongly about doing your part to help save our environment as well as your family, specify COLOURCOIL high performance pre-painted steel for your next metal roofing project.

What is lead poisoning about?

While the effects of lead poisoning are very serious, children are most significantly affected by this heavy metal, which is toxic to the human body. A child can have already absorbed lead into their bodies during pregnancy if the mother was absorbed to lead. Children and adults can be exposed by breathing, eating or drinking materials containing lead and through skin contact. Because children are not yet fully developed, the lead poisoning affects many aspects of their progression and growth. Speech delay, hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, behavior disorders, neurological and renal damage, stunted growth, anemia, hearing loss, and cognitive damage can result.

Having flat roof leakage problems.........?

Many commercial and institutional facilities have traditionally utilized flat roofs because they have been a cost effective solution for covering extremely large areas. Unfortunately, flat roofs also have a great tendency to leak. Water trapped on a flat surface causes sagging and can lead to permeation of the water through the roof, resulting in saturation of the building’s insulation, damage to contents, and air quality concerns.

Common problems associated with concrete flat roofs shown above.

To solve these problems, talk to your engineer or metal roofing manufacturer to design a lightweight, pre-engineered sloped framing system with metal roofing for either retrofitting existing roofs or incorporating into the design of new construction. The system attaches directly to the existing roof or its supporting structure (in the case of new construction) to create the desired slope and provides a durable, low maintenance solution.

Existing Built Up Flat Roof
At the end of a built up roof's life span it is not necessary to re-roof with the same high maintenance, short life roofing materials--whether standard built type roofing (tar and gravel) of any of the single ply roofing materials such as EPDM . The obvious low cost, lightweight long-term alternative is metal roofing. The worn out flat roof need not even be removed, though removal of ballast materials, such as gravel, is recommended. The sloped retrofit frame section is attached directly to the old roof.

Retrofit Light Gauge Metal Framing System
The retrofit light gauge metal framing system is constructed of lightweight galvanized metal studs and hat sections. A minimum slope of 2/12 is mandatory for most metal roof panel profiles; however, a steeper slope can be used. Smaller metal frame sections can be fabricated in the shop then transported and installed. For larger roofs, the retrofit frame sections can be fabricated directly on the roof.

Fiberglass Insulation
Insulation increases R rating, saving utility costs over the life of the roof. Considering how long these roofs last, that can add up to a substantial return on your investment.

The Metal Roof Panel
The metal roof panels are available from downstream manufacturers in a variety of profiles and colors. The panels come cut to length for each individual job and roof section, eliminating problems with cross joints.  Metal roof panels manufactured using
COLOURCOIL high performance pre-painted steel come with warranties of up to  20 years against colour fading, chalking and delamination with 25 years against corrosion.
