The month of September
seemed rather short. This is probably
due to the short break our
committee members
get in-between Colourcoil
e-newsletter. Nonetheless,
our committee members are full of
ideas and if anything at
all, we will try not to go
overboard and keep this
newsletter short since most readers will be busy
with their work.
Some of our readers have
recently requested for
photos of metal roofs used
in residential buildings. In
this issue, we have included
some under the topic of
Roofing materials. Are you
convinced that metal is
really the best choice? We
think you will be. We
certainly are.
On behalf of Colourcoil
Industries, the committee
members and I would like to
take this opportunity to
wish our Muslim readers
"Selamat
Berpuasa".
Thank you.

Roofing
Materials -
Metal Vs. The Alternatives
Like Intel and AMD who manufacture
processor chips for computers,
Colourcoil Industries specializes in
the manufacturing of colour coated
steel that
cater to wide applications in the
building industry. One such industry
in particular is the metal roofing
and wall cladding industry.
So, have you decided on the type of
material you will be specifying for
your next roofing project? If you are undecided on the
type of roofing you need or
intend to specify, here are some
comparisons for which we believe
metal is really the best choice.
Check out the photos below.

Metal Vs The Alternatives |
|
Asphalt
Asphalt shingle has been one of
the more popular roofing materials
particularly in North America - a
piece of felt or fiberglass that is
covered in tar and the tiny small
stones are literally glued onto the
surface.
However over time, this type of roof
loses all its protection due to worn
off stones and causes ongoing
deterioration of all the shingles,
leading to leaks and eventual
structural damage.

Clay or Concrete Roofing
Tiles
In many countries, clay or
concrete roofing tiles are
commonly used for
residential buildings, but because of their
composition, they have their
own unique set of problems,
which include water
intrusion due to extremely
porous make up.
The roofing tiles become
cracked by moisture seeping
through the pores of the
tile as it goes through the
freeze/thaw or wet/dry
cycles. Once the tile is
cracked, water will easily
get through and great damage
can be done before the
homeowner even realizes it. |

Metal
-
The Clear Winner
Metal roofs however will not
absorb water which can cause
cracking and rotting in
other materials. They do not
warp, split and are
impervious to mildew,
termites and pests.
Due to its light weight per
unit area, structural
savings can be realized in a
building when compared to
using heavier non-metal
roofing alternatives. Not
only that,
metal roofs are virtually
maintenance-free, fireproof,
energy efficient, durable,
and can be manufactured to
give virtually any look
conceivable.
Are metal roofs only
applicable to only
industrial buildings?
Certainly not. Here are some
examples of how metal
roofs may be applied for
residential buildings.

If you have decided
on metal as your
preferred choice of roofing
material, then you must look at the quality of
the colour coated material that is to be
specified.
For a true
"investment-grade" metal roofing or
wall cladding, specify
COLOURCOIL®
high performance pre-painted steel.
Our high performance colour coated
steel cured with our
state-of-the-art infra-red
technology, comes in new and
exciting colours with warranties of up to
20 years against colour fading,
chalking and delamination and 25
years against corrosion. Not only
that, they
are
completely lead-free.
More details.....
Did You Know..........?
COLOURCOIL®
high performance pre-painted steel
are brand marked on the back of the
colour coated sheet for your peace
of mind. This is to protect you as
an end-user so that you will not be
shortchanged into getting something
that you did not specify.
Hence, if you have specified our
high performance pre-painted steel
for your metal roofing or wall
cladding, always check on the back
of the roofing sheet to make sure
that you get what you or your client
paid for.
Remember: As an end-user or
specifier, you have the right to
insist on proof (i.e. mill
certificate) from your metal roofing
or wall cladding manufacturer that
the material used by him is in
accordance to your specification.
You may also call and check back
with us for proof of purchase by the
metal roofing manufacturer. Just
simply ask him for the coil
reference numbers. FYI, every
pre-painted steel coil leaving our
factory is tested with a unique
number assigned to the coil. A
sample of each pre-painted coil is
also retained by our factory
laboratory for future testing.
